Lizard Island update day #1
25.10.2009
Hello from the Reef, The fishing thus far for the boys on Calypso has been nothing short of great!!. All our trips have caught nice big fish and lots of them. Peter Collins, Phil McCloy, Matt and Zac have all caught fish between 900 and 1000lb's. All within the last week. As for this season compared with last year its a definate improvement with most boats sharing in the action. The Lizard Island Classic started today with somewhat slower fishing, we managed a fish of 200lb's to get the ball rolling. The lead boat is on three fish "Castille" with Dean Bech at the helm, the boys had a flurry of action this afternoon on number 10 ribbon releasing 3 fish with the biggest 950lb. The rest of the fleet struggledto keep pace with castille and only a hand full of boats taging fish. The Classic is over 7 days and is still WIDE open, my prediction is for around 15-18 fish to win!! We now have some dates in November open for anyone who wants to come up. Nov 27th to the 1st December is open (5 days) which runs over a weekend so get your mates together and get up here as the full moon on the 3rd of December willbe prime time for the famous aggregation of Bigeye/Yellowfin Tuna's and of course the big blacks out wide of the edge. Anyone interested can call the boat phone each evening on 0400 847 537 between 6.30pm -9.00pm QLD time. I'll report on the tournament as it unfolds. Best Regards Capt Tim
To the Reef!!
31.8.2009
monday cant come quick enough. We depart for the reef then and everyone is looking forward to it. It will be a different year with the new engines and I'm already planning on not spending as much time in the engine room this season, or so I believe. There are still days open for the Heavy Tackle season during October and November this year. Contact Captain Tim to discuss your adventure to the reef. Days will be sold to members of the site at a discounted rate, so get in touch with Tim early. Happy fishing Tim
Fishing Report August/Septembe
17.8.2009
The fishing has been slow this last month with most of our time being spent fishing for snapper and tuna rather than billfish. Its time to head north. Its been a long time since I have spent my time at home this late in the year. Years past have placed us at Cape Bowling Green 35 nm east of Townsville fishing for the juvenille blacks and sails. We used to do loads of fishing at CBG but recent years have seen the place not as popular. Maybe people expect more from their fishing these days ?? I'm not sure why as light tackle fishing at CBG is some of the best fun you as an angler could have. Especially with the flyrod!! Cape Bowling Green was the mecca of light tackle black marlin fishing during the early 90's with anglers experiencing up to 35 tags in a days fishing. Red hot by any standard. Fishing around 20 mins from the shelter of the Cape juvenille Blacks are in plauges during the spring in Australia. This area still fishes well with 10-15 fish in a day not uncommon. I think its one of those cases where to catch lots of fish there you HAVE to go there. Makes sense hey? Therefore I'm looking to extend our northern season next year to give you all the chance to come and fish with us at CBG before the annual Townsville Billfish Challenge which is held during the first week of September each year. I am currently looking to put a team together for the Tournament in 2010, those interested please contact me asap to get on board. The 2009 heavy tackle is nearly sold out for this year with date still open as follows: October 5 6 7 and 8 only. ex Cairns. November 6 7 8 and 9. Ex Cooktown. Contact Tim asap as dates are first in first served. We are departing Cairns for the return journey home on the 7th of December, contact me if you would like to be on this great fun trip of 7-10 days fishing down the reef to the Gold Coast QLD. Some of the most spectacular areas in the country will be visited. Port Stephens as usual is filling fast with all anglers from last year already making their bookings firm. The interclub tournament is still open for those wanting a shot at the biggest comp in the country. dates are feb 27 and 28 and March 6 and 7. It maybe the light at the end of the tunnel as the 2010 Heavy Tackle Season is already proving a hit with our friends from the states making heavy tackle bookings already for next years seaon. The last week of October and the first two weeks of November are already sold. Make your arrangements for next year now so you are not left at the dock. On a sadder note I would like to pass onto the Butler family my sincere condolences for the passing of Dean's mother. Never an easy time for anyone. Keep them in your prayers for those that do. Best Regards Captain Tim
