Fishing Hotting Up
14.3.2008
If anyone is looking at coming up to Port Stephens to fish then this is the time. We are finding that the fishing is excellent at the moment and we are expecting the Season to last for quite a while yet. This is due to the East Australian current starting to run hard again bringing with it loads of bait fish and masses of warm water from the North which will prolong our Season through May. The inshore fishery is firing up now with black marlin being taken on the inshore reefs with striped marlin with them as well. We currently have the "Blue Marlin Tournament" held out of Foster open. This should fish well and we are pleased that there is a tournament being held at the right time of the year to target the blues. The tournment is on the 17th and 18th May and we would like to fish a couple of days either side to take advantage of fishing in Foster making this a liveaboard charter. If anyone is interested let us know. We are also open for the dates 26 and 27th April, and 3/4 May, 10/11 May, 17/18 May (Foster Tournament), 24/25 May and 28/29 May We are also putting together our Cairns Season with some prime time still available due to some unforseen cancellations If you would like to book some time with us you can contact us through our Website or contact Tim anytime on 041 1111476. Just leave a message if you cannot get through as Tim is fishing non stop until the 8th April (one day off and then starting again). Have a great day and we hope to see you soon in Port Stephens or Cairns
Port Stephens January 2008
22.1.2008
G'Day form Port Stephens, By now you may of heard some reports coming out of Port Stephens for the 2008 season is now underway. We have been fishing quite alot lately as the holiday season was, and is still hectic up here. The fishing started out very inconsistent with one day seeing 6-10 fish catching 4-5 and then the next you would'nt see one!!! Not an uncommon way to kick as season off but it gets a little frustrating. The one thing that has remained constant right through is that the bait schools are HUGE and haven't moved since the start of the year. It was only a matter of time before the fish moved in on them. The last 10 days of fishing has remained consistent with Canadian anglers Chris Risby and family fishing for the first time with us caught 6 from 6 with us including his own personal GRAND SLAM before lunch. (Blue, Black and Striped Marlin) A great day any where in the world. The next day we went 3 from 5 bites on stripes and blacks. Its no secret when the fish start biting as the privateers (GOD may LOVE em??)have been getting amoungst the fish as well. Gary Holts "Diversion" local club vessels Di Da Ke and Pelagic are now rolling in fish and getting there pointscore of to a healthy start giving us the Born Free something to chase!! Almost everyday now the top boats are catching 6-8 fish per day with a grand slam hooked or caught each day. Its not just Port Stephens areas fishing well, but also the grounds south of the Port with Lake Mac boat Running Bear getting 6 fish south of Port Stephens on Sunday, Marlin Lunatic "Rocket" also kicked of his season with 5 stripes all caught on lures around the 32'10 to 32'14 area in 90 ftms. All fish in the Port Stephens area have been in the "carpark" area or 32'58 to 33'03 area 5 to 90 ftms. Local club vessel "Boardroom2" let go and estimated 500lb blue also on Sunday whilst fishing the "carpark "area. . Nice one for January!! Its not that they are everywhere, its just that there not many places they aren't!!! Local photographer and good mate George Trinkler fished the inshore grounds and had 3 bites from Blacks and stripes so maybe its time for a dig inshore, maybe the world famous gibber will give us a show this summer?? There has also been lots of good Dolphin Fish around the fads as we are getting a feed each day on the way home from the marlin fishing. Stay Tuned. As for some dates still open if you haven't already booked yet, here they are. January 25th, 29th, 30th, 31st. February 4th to the 8th. February 10th to the 15th. February 25th to the 29th. BOOKED OUT MARCH! April 2nd, 3rd, 4th. April 12th onwards.(Tims best pick for good fishing) Contact Captain Tim now to secure your time. Have a great day at work, I'm going fishing. Best Regards Capt Tim
Port Stephens Starts
3.1.2008
Hello and Happy New Year. Fishing has started in Port for another year. We fished the last few days on the 85ftm line just inside the Shelf where we found the current had finally slowed up to around 1 - 1.5 kts and the water temperature was a great 23.5 degrees C. We found huge bait schools starting to form along the inside of the drop off mainly because of the reduction in current which is pretty well what we need to get the fishing going. I marked a few fish on the bait schools which were easily jigged with the Sabiki Rigs but we did not have any shots on the marlin. Not surprising though that the bait has shown up within the last 24 hours. All the bait schools we targeted we found to be the large size slimy mackerel which is primo marlin tucker. We are out again in the morning which is Saturday the 6th feeling quite confident that we will find some fish as the hard work has been done with just the bait fish turning up. Local Club vessel Black and Blue caught one from two striped marlin three days ago to open their account for the year. Small dolphin fish are starting to congregate around the Fisheries FAD as the warm water pushes in. We currently have some openings available now - contact me on 041 1111476 or via email fishcalypso@bigpond.com Hope you all have a great New Year and I look forward to updating you throughout the Port Stephens 2008 Season.
